Philip Kaffka has been designing and building custom homes for his family owned and operated business since 1976. Born in Hackensack, NJ Philip was the middle son of 3 boys. Raised in a Catholic family, Philip learned very early on the value of hard work, ethics and dedication.
By the 8th grade Philip had figured out that you need a solid foundation on which to build a business. At the age of 10, Philip had started his paper route and discovered very quickly the value of a dollar.
Philip began his construction career when he was 18 years old, working through the Carpenter’s Union on schools and other similar projects. Starting as a General Carpenter Philip also honed his skills in concrete, framing and trim carpentry.
At the age of 26, with a wife and three kids, Philip decided to leave his union paid superintendent position to venture out on his own and become a framing contractor. At that moment Double Eagle Land and Development was born.
“It’s not often you find a builder covered head to toe in concrete, can frame a home and builds cabinets with the finest details”
Drawing from his European heritage, Philip’s passion and knowledge of construction was passed down from his Uncle, Grandfather and Great Grandfather’s family trade. “My family heritage was known for their generations of craftsmanship throughout Europe” explains Philip.
His late and younger brother Greg worked with him on many projects throughout their careers primarily in California and Nevada. Philip continues building homes throughout the western United States including; Idaho, Washington, California, Colorado, Hawaii and Nevada. Philip’s eldest son Andy, took an interest in construction and began helping “Dad” at the age of 14. Now, with several grandsons, Phillip has no doubt they will carry on the Kaffka family construction legacy.
When asked about his construction experience, “My grey hair explains everything!” says Philip. His extensive hands-on background in construction is what differentiates him from other builders. “It’s not often you find a builder that has been covered head to toe in concrete, can frame a home and builds cabinets with the finest details”. Taking pride in the fact that his contractor’s license has gone without a blemish since inception in 1976 is also something that is almost unheard of these days.
